Pre-Range Checklist

Everything you need to bring and verify before your range session: ammunition, eye/ear protection, firearm condition, and a focused training intention.

Pack Before You Leave

Firearm (unloaded, in case or holster).
Ammunition — verify caliber matches the barrel marking.
Eye protection — ANSI Z87.1 rated ballistic glasses.
Ear protection — foam plugs (NRR 32+) or electronic earmuffs.
Targets — paper, cardboard, or range-approved reactive.
Range bag with cleaning kit for post-session maintenance.
Water bottle — hydration improves concentration.
Training journal or note app — record what you practiced.

Firearm Condition Check

Barrel clear of obstructions — visually inspect before loading.
Magazine(s) fully loaded with the correct ammunition.
Safety (if applicable) is functioning.
Sights are secure and zeroed.
Grip panels or stippling are not loose.

Set Your Training Intention

Name one skill to improve this session (e.g., trigger reset, draw speed, transition).
Warm up with 10–20 rounds of deliberate, slow fire before speed drills.
Debrief after each string: did you call your shot? Were sights aligned at the break?
End each session with dry-fire practice to reinforce muscle memory.
Note your best group and one area for next-session improvement.
