The Four Cardinal Rules

Treat every firearm as if it is loaded — always.
Never point the muzzle at anything you are not willing to destroy.
Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot.
Know your target and what lies beyond it.

Safe Storage Protocols

Firearms not in immediate control must be secured in a locked safe or lockbox.
Ammunition stored separately from unloaded firearms.
All household members know not to handle firearms without the responsible adult present.
Verify your safe or lockbox is in working order monthly.
Children in the home? Reinforce the Eddie Eagle rule: Stop — Don't Touch — Run Away — Tell a Grown-Up.

Pre-Range Inspection Routine

Verify firearm is unloaded and the chamber is empty before transport.
Inspect barrel for obstructions.
Check that action functions smoothly (no grit, no binding).
Confirm sights are secure and aligned.
Holster or case is in serviceable condition.
Eye and ear protection packed.
Ammunition matches the firearm's chamber marking.
